It's important that my clients know...

My goal in my consulting practice is to help athletes and performers unlock their inner mental strength in order to reach their maximum athletic, artistic and personal potential. I draw upon my academic background as well as my personal life experiences as an athlete, coach, administrator, and mentor to help guide each athlete to success. My role is to guide the athlete in pursuit of personal excellence by providing the environment in which to learn, develop, and train the mind. The athlete must bring the work ethic and dedication to training required to succeed. The athlete is the driving force behind the success.

I am bound by my association's ethical guidelines, and thus pay special attention to client-practitioner confidentiality. I aim to provide an unbiased medium in order to provide open communication with the athlete and/or artists. I see the athlete or artist as the expert in his or her own life and sport, and I view my work with the athlete as a collaborative effort to identify ways in which to enhance performance.

My career philosophy can be summarized in the following five points:

I believe in helping athletes/artists unlock their inner mental strength in order to reach their maximum athletic and personal potential. I draw upon my academic background as well as my personal life experiences as an athlete, coach, administrator, and mentor to help guide each athlete to success.
I believe my role is to guide each athlete/artist in the pursuit of personal excellence by providing the environment in which to learn, develop, and train the mind. Also, I guide each athlete/artist in the creation of personal solutions. I believe in focusing on the positives and the individual's strengths as much as possible. I view the working relationship with each individual as a collaboration with the goal of finding solutions that will enhance performance and life fulfillment.
I believe the athlete/artist is the expert in his or her own life and performance environment. I believe that each individual must bring into the working relationship the work-ethic and dedication required to succeed, and I believe that the individual is the driving force behind the success.
I believe that much of the athlete’s/artist's personal growth is initiated in-session, however I believe that this growth is continued by the individual out-of-session and in the individual’s natural environment. As such, I use mental skills training to help the athlete/artist develop key tools to enhance performance and this is often in the form of tasks completed by the individual in his or her everyday life and sport setting.
Finally, I believe in combining several major theories of counselling psychology in my work in order to provide a holistic and eclectic approach to performance enhancement. My philosophy is based on a cognitive-behavioral therapy model combined with a positive psychology approach and grounded on a client-centered foundation.
